World Heritage property को cultural, natural या mixed कहा जा सकता है। क्या “mixed” का मतलब बस इतना है कि पुरानी building किसी सुंदर landscape में है? नहीं। ये UNESCO की formal categories हैं और उस criteria से जुड़ी हैं जिसे property पूरा करती है। Category सही पढ़ने से पता चलता है कि जगह क्यों inscribe हुई, केवल photo label नहीं मिलता।
Cultural heritage
Cultural properties में monuments, building groups और ऐसे sites आ सकते हैं जिनकी history, art, science, aesthetics, ethnology या anthropology के नजरिये से outstanding universal value हो। Temple, archaeological area, historic city या designed landscape cultural हो सकता है, लेकिन केवल पुराना होना World Heritage status नहीं देता। Official property page criteria और शामिल components बताता है।
Natural heritage
Natural properties को natural features, geological formations, habitats, ecosystems या science, conservation और natural beauty की outstanding value के लिए recognise किया जाता है। Travel caption में “बहुत सुंदर” लिखना official test नहीं। Nomination और evaluation को outstanding universal value और relevant criteria दिखाना होता है।
Mixed heritage
UNESCO mixed property उसे कहता है जो cultural और natural heritage—दोनों definitions के कुछ या सभी हिस्से पूरा करे। यह nature और architecture का casual combination नहीं। Trees वाला fort अपने-आप mixed नहीं और shrine वाला national park भी अपने-आप mixed नहीं। Official classification देखना जरूरी है।
Criteria category से ज्यादा exact होते हैं
UNESCO दस selection criteria की एक list use करता है। Property को कम से कम एक criterion पूरा करना होता है, लेकिन उसके page पर कई criteria हो सकते हैं। Criteria i से vi आम तौर पर cultural values और vii से x natural values से जुड़े हैं। Official page boundaries, protection और management भी समझाता है। Famous name में कई monuments या बड़ा landscape हो तो यह detail बहुत जरूरी है।
Property page पाँच steps में पढ़ें
- Official property name और country confirm करें।
- देखें category cultural, natural या mixed है।
- Listed criteria और short description पढ़ें।
- Map और components देखें; पूरा city included मानकर न चलें।
- Inscription facts को current visitor information से अलग रखें।
Protected monument, World Heritage और Tentative List वाली guide एक और common confusion साफ करती है। Caption लिखने या heritage itinerary बनाने से पहले दोनों checks करें।

Serial property को एक building न समझें
कुछ inscriptions serial properties होती हैं, जिनमें अलग-अलग components शामिल रहते हैं। सबसे famous component photos में हावी हो सकता है, लेकिन official inscription में दूसरी locations भी हो सकती हैं। एक building को पूरी property कहने से पहले component list पढ़ें। Teacher, guide और traveller के लिए यह habit social media shorthand से ज्यादा accurate caption देती है।
