Adding Chitai and Jageshwar to an Almora–Pithoragarh journey changes the day from a transfer into a substantial outing. Allow time for parking, walking, temple visits and meals. A navigation app's driving estimate does not include the experience you want at each stop.

Understand the sequence and the detour

The route covered here goes from Almora through Chitai, Barechhina and Panuwanaula towards Artola. Jageshwar is reached on a separate branch from Artola; after the visit, return towards the main route. The onward journey continues in the Danya–Panar direction to Pithoragarh.

PopcornTrip's journey film records these stops and the approach to Pithoragarh. It is embedded below to help you understand the setting. Confirm the current road situation and suitable route before departure; a recorded journey cannot establish that a road is open on a future date.

Make Chitai the first main stop

Leave Almora early enough to spend useful time at Chitai. Include parking, the walk to the temple and the pace of everyone in your group. If reaching Pithoragarh that evening is essential, review the remaining plan at this first stop rather than waiting until late afternoon.

The bells and written appeals are part of local religious practice. Keep the visit quiet and follow photography instructions on site. Read our introduction to Chitai and Golu Devta before travelling so that the stop has context beyond a photograph.

Give Jageshwar its own time

The branch from Artola and the return to the onward route add time to the day. Decide whether you want a short temple visit or a more detailed look at the complex and surroundings. A meal break may fit here, but plan it rather than assuming that every stop will take only a few minutes.

Our Jageshwar introduction provides background. Select the stops that matter most to your group. If a longer visit is your priority, consider adjusting the overnight base instead of trying to recover time by rushing the next leg.

Choose between a through journey and an overnight break

A one-day plan is more manageable when you can depart Almora in the morning and limit the number of additional visits. Leave space to drop an optional walk if a temple visit or road delay takes longer. Discuss the plan and rest breaks with your driver.

For a slower trip, consider an extra night in Almora or the Jageshwar area and divide sightseeing and onward driving between two days. With children or older travellers, assess this against your own group's needs. The Almora accommodation guide helps you compare bases.

Keep the arrival evening simple

Allow time to find your accommodation, eat and rest on reaching Pithoragarh. For the following day, use our district introduction and Pithoragarh places guide. Treat a further long drive as a separate stage of the trip.

Departure checklist

  • Agree the starting time and overnight destination.
  • Check the vehicle, fuel and current route information.
  • Save the accommodation's address and contact details.
  • Include meals, water and rest stops.
  • Keep flexibility to shorten the plan if conditions change.

This is a suggested itinerary rather than a timetable. Use our seasonal guide when choosing dates, then check road and weather information again for the actual travel day.
